Race
(From Ultimate Alien Anthology)
Kushibans are often mistaken for pets or vermin when in fact they are an intelligent race with a complex peaceful society.
Kushibans have little need for tools or technology on their homeworld, where they manage to live in almost complete harmony with their natural environment. Although preyed upon by large predators, Kushibans typically use fire to keep them at bay. As herbivores, they do not need tools for hunting or preparing food. As they eat most of their food uncooked, they have little use for cooking utensils or similar items. When Kushibans need shelter from the elements, simple caves of tree hollows suffice.
Consequently, Kushibans have little value to a spacefaring economy and little desire to leave their homeworld.
Kushibans have an unique method of expressing their feelings. Their normally white fur changes color with each emotional state. This "mood fur" can go completely black when the creature is in deep despair.
Personality: Kushibans are generous gentle beings with a playful (usually wry) sense of humor. However, they can be vindictive and downright vicious when angered or betrayed. They have a low tolerance for bullies, simpletons, and misanthropes.
Physical Description: Kushibans are 0.5 meter long lagomorphic (rabbit-like) creatures with soft white fur, floppy ears, front paws that can be used as hands, small keen noses, and large, innocent-looking eyes. They can move as either quadrupeds or bipeds, though they must drop to all fours to charge or run.
Homeworld: Kushibah, a lush and unindustrialized planet in the Outer Rim.

Before we get into my current adventure, I want to tell you about why I have left my peaceful planet of Kushibah. I was out gathering my dinner as normal; but this time, I went further into the forest than usual. That is why when I heard the spaceship arriving, it took me a long time to get back to my village. We don't get spaceships arriving that often, but when they do, it is time for a huge party. The visitors often bring new toys for the babies and news of the outside. I have always been interested in the stories that that these visitors have told - for some reason, I have not been satisfied with my life on Kushibah.
However, this time, I could not make it back to see the spaceship land. Then, I started hearing the noises. I heard the screaming....the blaster fire.....I was tempted to just go back into the forest and hide. But, I made the decision to see what was happening in my village. This was not a normal situation, so I decided to hide while I was seeing what was happening. It was a good thing that I did. I saw these humanoids killing the people in my village!!!! It was horrible!!!! I saw my father try to protect my mother and sister and all that happened was that his head was blow off. After that, I was careful to be very quiet and not make a sound. I was scared to watch but also was scared to leave.
After the had finished killing the villagers, they set fire to our home, the trees. I then ran away and vowed that I would spend the rest of my life trying to find these evil creatures. I would leave my home, learn how to use the powerful technology in use in the Empire and learn how to use their weapons to kill people.
I went to a nearby village, told them what happened and asked when the next schedule spaceship was to arrive. They begged me to calm down and stay, but I had made up my mind for revenge. And when a Kusiban makes up her mind, there is no way to change it.
I finally found a freighter run by a human named Crazy Joe who would take me on. His ship was very old and needed a lot of work. He thought that if he trained me in repairing the ship, I could get into all of the small places in the ship that he couldn't fit into. In addition, there was the thought that since I look like an animal, I could be used to listen in on his 'clients' so that he could know what they are thinking and get a better deal. We went on like this for awhile, he trained me in mechanics, computer use and weapon use and I help him get better deals and help him repair his ship. He thought it was 'cute' that I carried a small blaster; it really did confuse his enemies when a furry rabbit held a gun on them.
After I learned all that he could teach me, I decided it was time for me to try to find my enemies. He didn't want to be alone again, however, we made a deal. Via my computer use, I would sneak into some computers and let him know about some choice 'clients' then he would help me find some work that would be appropriate and allow me access to a lot of computers to start searching for my enemies. He needed a break so landed on the pleasure planet of Zeltros. There he found out about a companion, Tosca, who was about to leave the planet to recruit new planets and maybe new companions. She needed a body guard that wouldn't intrude on profession and agreed that I would be a good choice. Since I looked like a cute pet, no one would believe that I was intelligent and I would be allowed to go where ever she was going. I taught her rudimentary Kushiban so that we could talk without others knowing. It just sounded like she was soothing her pet. She never did understand the richness of the language because her fur (hair?) couldn't change colors.
